Manu Amazon Jungle
Multi-day expedition into Manu National Park (commonly 4 to 7 days). Travel from Cusco over the Andes into the Amazon basin, experiencing a dramatic transition of ecosystems. In the cloud forest, spot cock-of-the-rock birds and orchids. Further down, navigate by motorized canoe on jungle rivers to reach lodges in Manu’s Cultural Zone or Reserved Zone (depending on tour length). Daily guided excursions include trail hikes to see monkeys, giant otters in oxbow lakes, caimans, and abundant birdlife; visits to clay licks at dawn where macaws and parrots gather in the hundreds to eat clay; and night walks to find insects and possibly frogs or nocturnal animals. Lodging is in basic eco-lodges. This immersive trip reveals pristine rainforest ecosystems and often involves disconnecting from modern conveniences to fully experience nature. Manu trips can be 4 to 7 days; the longer, the deeper into the park's Reserve Zone you go for increased wildlife sightings.
